Sliding Scale Fee Structure FAQ

  • My sliding scale is based on three components:

    1. the Federal Poverty Guidelines,

    2. an assessment of monthly expenses and how much of household income they require, and

    3. a self-assessment model adapted from the Green Bottle Practice.
Rather than relying on a single number, these elements together provide a fuller picture of a family’s financial capacity.

  • Yes, I do ask for one simple piece of income information, such as a recent pay stub or last year’s tax information. This is just a quick checkmark within the sliding scale process and isn’t closely reviewed or questioned. Everything is kept confidential, and the larger conversation is centered on honesty, trust, and what feels manageable for your family.

  • The Green Bottle Method is a values-based self-assessment model that invites families to reflect on their access to financial resources, stability, and flexibility. It allows you to consider not just income, but your overall financial situation, and to choose a fee tier that feels accurate and ethical for your circumstances.

Our sliding scale fee structure helps make midwifery care more accessible while keeping the practice sustainable. This scale considers a combination of different factors: the amount of people in your home, yearly income, an overview of monthly expenses in relation to income, and a self-assessment model called the Green Bottle Method.

Together, these tools help us arrive at a fee that is fair, respectful, and reflective of each family’s current financial reality. This process is collaborative, confidential, and grounded in trust.
